EURO 2008 - The Football Event in Europe

Tickets for the UEFA EURO 2008™ finals will be on sale by spring 2007 - with the organisers promising a "perfect system" for sale and distribution.

Deadline date
At a press conference in Vienna on Wednesday, Euro 2008 SA chief operating officer Martin Kallen, Austrian Football Association (ÖFB) president Friedrich Stickler and Austrian tournament director Christian Schmölzer confirmed that tickets for the tournament should be available to buy in a year's time.

'Important matter'
"Ticket sales are a very important matter in such a big event," said Kallen, who promised that admission would be cheaper than for this summer's FIFA World Cup in Germany. "We are working hard on a perfect system and we intend to start sales in spring 2007, once we know how many tickets there will be.

Best ever EURO
"We were given a clear order by the UEFA president, and presidents of both Switzerland and Austria, to organise the best EURO ever," added Kallen. "Of course, there is still much to do but we are well on the way and we are very optimistic that we will reach our goal."

Partners in place
Sponsorship packages are proving popular so far, and Kallen was pleased to report that the majority of the event's corporate partners had been decided. "We have already established nine of the ten sponsor partners for UEFA EURO 2008™ and should finalise all the contracts towards the end of this year."

Safety concerns
Safety issues are always paramount at major championships, and in this respect, Kallen stressed that Austria and Switzerland were already well prepared. "Both countries have done a perfect job," he said. "We could start the tournament tomorrow."

Tournament standard
Schmölzer, meanwhile, was eager to set a common standard for all the host cities, saying: "We held meetings in February and March where we brought together security people, stadium owners and the politicians. This has worked out fine so far and is very important for a safe and perfect UEFA EURO 2008™."

Fact-finding mission
With the 2006 World Cup being held in Germany, Stickler was keen to cross the border to observe how the tournament was being organised and look for useful ideas about how to optimise UEFA EURO 2008™. "We have a great opportunity to watch the World Cup this summer and we will definitely watch carefully," said the ÖFB president. "This gives us the chance to learn many things and adapt our plans so that everything at UEFA EURO 2008™ in Austria and Switzerland works out perfectly."
